Mark Smith files for House District 99

Smith will fight to protect the Lowcountry’s quality of life in Columbia

(Charleston, S.C.) – Lowcountry businessman Mark Smith officially filed paperwork today to run in the June 9thRepublican Primary for House District 99 in the South Carolina House of Representatives.

"I am honored by the opportunity to represent the people of Berkeley and Charleston Counties at the State House in Columbia," said Smith. "I'm running because I am passionate about serving our people and protecting our incredible quality of life here in the Lowcountry."

Mark Smith is a strong conservative and successful small businessman who was born and raised in the Lowcountry. He is past president of the East Cooper Republican Club and has been a tireless proponent of reform and accountability.

"As the next Representative of District 99, I will work hard every day and fight for you - for our fair share of infrastructure funding, better healthcare, and every child having access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code. I’ll work side by side with fellow small business owners to focus on lower taxes, job creation, and workforce readiness. I’ll never stop fighting to protect all of our citizens, including those who are most vulnerable, like our children and seniors,” said Smith.

The cornerstones of Mark Smith’s campaign are:

  1. Committed Leadership for the Lowcountry

  2. Protecting the Lowcountry’s Citizens and Quality of Life

  3. Dedication to Professionalism and Accountability

"Our citizens love living in the Lowcountry and we have a responsibility to ensure that their best interests are represented. The Lowcountry community has lost a great deal of influence over the last decade and now is the time to re-establish ourselves at the Statehouse," concluded Smith.

Mark Smith and his wife of 26 years, Elayne, are parents to sons Parker, Avery, and Domenic. He is a former Mt. Pleasant Town Councilman and they live on Daniel Island. The Smiths attend St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island.

Mark is the Owner and President of McAlister-Smith Funeral Homes, Avinger Funeral Home, and Palmetto Cremation Society, which have six locations in Charleston, Berkeley and Orangeburg Counties and manages a staff of over 30 employees. He also serves as chairman of the S.C. Advisory Council on Aging. Mark additionally serves as chairman of the Roper St. Francis Mt. Pleasant Hospital Board of Directors and is a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston.
