“I am running for a seat on the Mount Pleasant Town Council because I am committed to the cause of making the Town of Mount Pleasant both efficient and fiscally sustainable for the current and future residents of Mount Pleasant.”
- Strong and sustainable economic plan for Mt. Pleasant
- Focus on the core services
- Create a pro-small business & a pro-family environment
Economic Development:
- As the next Mount Pleasant Town Councilman I will be a strong leader in planting the sign “Mount Pleasant is open for Business!”
- I will lead the Council efforts to aggressively pursue new business.
- We have no hurdles in SC to recruiting new businesses to the Lowcountry.
- The first thing we must do is establish a business-friendly environment for all businesses (big and small). This means low taxes, less regulation, a balanced budget, a pro-business labor environment, health care and a highly educated workforce.
Economic Incentives:
- The answer to recruiting new business to the Lowcountry is not economic incentives. If we only set our sights on economic packages – we are selling ourselves way to short.
- We must take care of business at home first. Again, let’s have the best free market, pro-business environment anywhere in SC and the Nation. That means low taxes, less regulation, a balanced budget, a pro-business labor environment, health care and a highly educated workforce.
- If we don’t demand that the Mount Pleasant Town government focus on establishing a pro-business environment, then economic incentives are meaningless.
- Mount Pleasant is and can continue to be a great place to do business.
- We can celebrate announcements like Boeing every year, and not every 20 years – if we provide an unfettered free market.
Will you vote to provide economic incentives?:
- My priority is to be a leader on creating / maintaining a strong pro-business environment in Mount Pleasant. That is the single most important thing we can do to recruit business to the Lowcountry. Without this pro-business environment, no economic package is big enough to recruit new business.
- Boeing left the state of Washington for several reasons. It was predominantly because of the state’s unfriendly labor environment. Perfect example, the 2008 machinist strike cost the Boeing close to $2 billion dollars – that strike only lasted 57 days!
- The answer is I will not support the position of government picking winners and losers. Who gets economic incentives and who doesn’t. Big business versus small business. That is not the role of government.
- What I will support are economic policies that are about freedom and limited government. I will support economic policies that let the free market flourish. I will support economic policies that create a highly educated and inspired workforce. And I will support economic policies that create a pro-business labor force.
- Ladies and gentlemen it is these pro-business policies that are far more valuable to a company than economic incentives.
The Town of Mount Pleasant has some unique challenges. My campaign will focus on four key principles:
- Create a strong and sustainable economic plan for the Town of Mt. Pleasant
- Stay Focused on helping the Town of Mount Pleasant’s key critical core services succeed
- Explore & create new opportunities for revenue through growth & privatization
- Continue to create a pro-small business and a pro-family environment
